Flight preparation

When flight preparation is incomplete

A practical way to resolve missing downloads without losing track of what is ready.

Read the specific status

Open preparation for the intended flight. Identify whether the problem is a missing file, a paused download, unavailable coverage, an expired product or insufficient storage. Those are different problems; repeatedly pressing a download button may not resolve them.

Check the foundations

  • Is the device online through a usable internet connection, rather than a receiver-only Wi-Fi network?
  • Is enough free space available for the stated preparation requirement?
  • Is the route and selected chart layer correct?
  • Is the app open and allowed time to finish?

Try again while you have time to inspect the result. Do not delete other prepared trips or files without considering whether you still need them.

Distinguish download failures from unavailable coverage

A network retry may help a failed transfer. It cannot create a chart or document that the source does not provide. If coverage remains unavailable, obtain an appropriate current alternative and reconsider what the device can support offline.

Changing layers or corridor width changes what you request. Recheck the estimated size and readiness result after a change, rather than assuming the previous status still applies.

Verify the useful result

Open the prepared flight and the documents you expect to use. Check dates, warnings and the route area. Verify GPS separately: downloaded files do not supply a position source. Live online weather, messaging and complete NOTAM briefing are not guaranteed offline.

Send a report that can be investigated

Use Support with the route identifiers, layer, displayed error, device/app version and whether the connection changed. A screenshot of the status is more useful than “it did not work.” Do not send passwords or unrelated personal information.

Before you fly

FLAL provides supplemental planning and situational awareness. Verify current official information and your equipment setup. Offline data is a saved snapshot, not a live update.
