Flight preparation

Prepare before you leave the network

Download available data, then review what is ready.

Start from the intended flight

Open Prepare flight from your saved route. Check departure, destination and stops before downloading. Choose the aircraft settings, VFR or IFR, chart layer and offline corridor that suit this flight. These settings describe what to prepare; they are not a clearance or a check of your qualifications.

Download with time to recover

Use a reliable connection, sufficient free storage and a charged device. Begin preparation and keep the screen open until it finishes. Download size depends on the route, selected layers and available packages; a long route or extra layers can require more data.

If the connection drops, return to preparation and review incomplete items. Existing saved files may be retained, but a progress bar alone is not proof that all required coverage is ready.

Check the result, not just the button

  • Read each download status and any missing-coverage warning.
  • Check chart/document effective dates.
  • Confirm the destination and relevant airport documents are available.
  • Open the prepared flight and inspect the route area.
  • Check the position source separately from downloads.

A saved route alone does not mean its data has been downloaded. Wider coverage may help with alternatives, but it still has geographic and source limits.

Know what remains a snapshot

Downloaded charts and route data can be available without internet. Stored weather does not refresh itself. Fresh weather needs a connection or compatible receiver products with broadcast coverage. GPS needs a suitable position source.

FLAL does not provide a complete NOTAM briefing. Available TFR and receiver advisories are only a subset; obtain a current official briefing before departure. Use the preparation troubleshooting checklist if something remains incomplete.

Before you fly

FLAL provides supplemental planning and situational awareness. Verify current official information and your equipment setup. Offline data is a saved snapshot, not a live update.
